Privacy Policy
EFFECTIVE DATE: MAY 5, 2026Summary
Brief Aero collects the minimum data needed to function:
- Your Apple Sign In identifier (anonymous to us)
- Your name and email only if you choose to share them via Sign in with Apple
- Your aircraft, checklists, logbook, and pilot profile (stored in your private iCloud, not on our servers)
We do not sell or share your data. We use no third-party trackers or analytics. We do not display ads.
1. Who we are
Brief Aero is operated by Quentin Quaizac, a sole developer based in Salon-de-Provence, France. This privacy policy describes how Brief Aero (the "App") collects, uses, and protects your information.

2. Information we collect
2.1 Sign in with Apple
To use Brief Aero, you sign in using Sign in with Apple. This gives the App:
- A unique user identifier — an anonymous string that lets us recognize you across devices. We cannot use this identifier to look up your real Apple ID, name, or email.
- Your name — only if you explicitly choose to share it during sign in. You can choose to hide your name.
- Your email — only if you explicitly choose to share it. Apple offers a "Hide My Email" option that gives us a private relay address. We do not see your real email in that case.
2.2 Pilot profile data (provided by you)
If you choose to complete your Pilot Profile, the App stores the following on your private iCloud database:
- Display name
- FAA certificate type (Student, PPL, CPL, ATP, CFI, etc.)
- Certificate number
- Ratings (ASEL, AMEL, Instrument, etc.)
- Flight Review, IFR Proficiency, and Medical exam dates
- Medical certificate class
- Total hours logged
This data is stored in your iCloud private database, encrypted by Apple. We do not have access to it. Only devices signed into your Apple ID can read it.
2.3 Aircraft, checklists, and logbook entries
All aircraft you add, checklists you create or clone, and logbook entries you make are stored in your iCloud private database. We do not see, log, or analyze this content.
2.4 Public community library submissions
If you submit a checklist template to the public community library, the template content (aircraft type, checklist items) becomes publicly readable by other Brief Aero users via Apple's iCloud public database. Your sign-in identifier is attached as the author. Do not submit personal or sensitive information in template content.
2.5 In-app purchases
Brief Aero offers optional Pro subscriptions ($7.99/month or $59.99/year) processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment method. Apple shares with us only:
- Whether your Pro subscription is currently active
- Your subscription product ID and renewal status
2.6 Local notifications
If you enable notifications, the App schedules local reminders 30 days before your Flight Review, IFR proficiency, or medical certificate expires. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.
2.7 What we do NOT collect
Brief Aero does not collect or use:
- Your location (GPS, IP-based, or otherwise)
- Your contacts
- Your photos or media
- Your health or fitness data
- Your financial information beyond what Apple provides for IAP
- Browser tracking or fingerprinting data
- Crash reports, analytics events, or behavior tracking
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
3. How we use your information
Limited information we receive (Apple Sign In identifier and optional name/email) is used only to:
- Authenticate you and link your data to your Apple ID
- Verify your active Pro subscription status
- Reply to support requests if you contact us
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
4. Data sharing and third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or any other purpose.
The App relies on the following Apple services, governed by Apple's privacy policy:
- Sign in with Apple — authentication
- iCloud — data storage and sync
- StoreKit / App Store — in-app purchases
- UserNotifications — local notifications (no remote push servers)
5. Data retention
Your data lives in your iCloud account for as long as you keep your Apple ID. If you delete your Brief Aero account or the App, your iCloud private data may persist according to Apple's iCloud retention rules.
To fully delete data we receive (your sign-in identifier and any community templates you submitted), email hello@briefaero.app and we will respond within 30 days.
6. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion
- Object to or restrict processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise these rights, email hello@briefaero.app. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Children's privacy
Brief Aero is intended for licensed pilots and student pilots, who must be at least 16 years old in most jurisdictions to begin flight training. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
8. Security
Your sensitive data is protected by Apple's iCloud private database with end-to-end encryption. Sign In identifiers are stored in iOS UserDefaults (planned migration to Keychain in a future release). We do not operate our own backend servers.
9. Aviation-related data accuracy
Your pilot profile (certificate dates, currency dates, hours) is your responsibility. Brief Aero stores the data you enter without verification against any FAA database. Always verify your currency status against your physical certificate and the FAA's official records before flight.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as Brief Aero evolves. Material changes will be notified in-app and on this page. The effective date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
